My summer vacation was a lot of fun. I spent time with my family upstate. We were in a house in the Catskills. There was a lot of fresh air and mountains.
We played outside and went for walks. We saw many deer eating apples from the apple tree and we saw a teenage bear, too! You never see things like that in NYC. It was great!
We did not have a TV in the Catskills, so we read a lot of books. I like reading! It’s fun and you learn a lot of things.
Then there was a big hurricane and we lost electricity. That wasn’t fun and I learned that I didn’t like it.
Here is a list of things that we couldn’t do because we didn’t have electricity.
1. Turn on the light
2. Turn on the electric stove
3. Turn on the oven
4. Turn on the coffeemaker
5. Turn on the toaster
6. Turn on the microwave
7. Take a shower
8. Charge our cell phones
9. Charge our computers
10. Charge our air card for WiFi
11. Operate the electric chair
I learned that I really liked electricity. A lot. As a matter of fact I love it. Marinka + Electricity 4Eva
I don’t know why people waited so long to invent it. Probably because they had to go to sleep at 8pm when it got dark and they couldn’t make coffee in the morning so they were tired and cranky. I know I was!
I have a new understanding and appreciation of history.
I asked Husbandrinka, “ Who is the person who invented electricity, Thomas Edison?†I also wanted to know why there aren’t more bridges dedicated to that fine man and why his picture isn’t more prominently displayed. Like on the American flag, for example.
“No,†Husbandrinka said. “Thomas Edison commercialized electricity, but it existed before him. Even the ancient Greeks had the concept.â€
He looks unsure. This is where Wikipedia would come in super handy. And then he tells me that he thinks Ben Franklin actually invented it.
“Fantastic!†I tell him. “Let’s go fly a kite and reinvent it.â€
Is that right? Or do we need to shoot an arrow through an apple on top of someone’s head?
History is so confusing.
And I haven’t had a hot cup of coffee in ages.
So, in conclusion, I had fun on my summer vacation.
